The Williams house Today

Lawndale, the historic Williams Homestead, is a very important part of Central Florida and Brevard County heritage both architecturally and historically. It is one of the last remaining examples of Queen Anne architecture in the county, located on the Indian River Lagoon and accessed by the historic river road, a National Register Historic District in Rockledge, Florida. Rockledge is a residential community about 40 miles east of Orlando.

The builder of the house, H.S. Williams, moved his family to this area in 1874, the construction of the house was completed in 1880. Williams became the first Postmaster in Rockledge, served as County Treasurer, was a member of the first School Board and was the first State Senator to represent Brevard County. One of the first schoolrooms in the county was located in the second floor. Many of the original furnishings and artifacts are available and will be used in furnishing the structure once renovated.
